William Dopping Accidently Shot and Killed.
A sad accident happened in the town of Wheeling Monday morning last about six o'clock, by which William Dopping, a harvest hand employed on the farm of Louis Mazy, lost his life. The circumstances are as follows: Mr. Mazy, who was out milking his cows at daylight, on the morning mentioned, discovered some wolves in his wheat field. He went to the house and got his gun and the three hired men went with him to try to capture the animals. One of the wolves was driven into a hole in the ground, and the men proceeded to dig him out with shovels. After working some time, Mazy who back from the rest a few feet said he would feel in the hole with hte ramrod of his gun, and in attempting to draw it, the gun which was cocked and ready for use, accidently discharged and the contents entered the body of the unfortunate man just below the breast bone, the shot passing through the lower part of the heart and left lung, killing him almost instantly. The gun had been loaded for wolves and contained a very heavy charge of buck shot. As soon as they saw what happened, Mazy and one of the men came to Faribault and made known the facts, and the former offered to give himself up to the officers. Coroner W. W. Waugh summoned a jury and held an inquest on the body of the deceased with the following verdict:

Coroner Waugh immediately impanelled a jury consiting of Joseph Covart, J. C. Schulte, W. H. Godfrey, H. Dammeier, Samuel Covart and James Hunter, and proceeded to hold an inquest, when a verdict was rendered in accordance with the foregoing. The deceased leaves a wife and two children.

Magdalena Doepping, who has been residing with her son Edward Doepping at 1078 Twentieth Street, passed away this morning at 9:30, age 66. She leaves two sons and a daughter. One son is residing at Claremont, Minnesota, and will be unable to attend the funeral services. Mrs. Geo Holden, daughter of Mrs. Doepping, who is residing in San Francisco, arrived last night. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at eleven o'clock at the Cleveland funeral parlors.
