Art was born March 15, 1930 to Albert and Adeline (Wendt) Brandt in Rock Dell Township, MN. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 and served aboard the LST 525 and the APA 224. While home on leave, he met Millie Schroeder and they were married a year later in 1953. Art and Millie returned to Rochester in 1955 and raised 3 daughters and 2 sons. Art worked for Alvin E. Benike Construction for 36 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 92, a Cub and Boy Scout Leader, and held a number of positions at his church. Art was an avid fixer of most anything that needing fixing, and loved to tweak things to make them work better. Both Art and Millie enjoyed traveling in their early retirement years and he was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife as her health declined. Over the past 10 years, Art developed a passion for gardening, cooking, and baking. Art loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He always had a bag of Tootsie Rolls stashed away to give to the little-ones. Art is survived by his daughters, Laura Darst of Byron, Vickie (Ken) Leinen of Lismore, MN, Judy Brandt of Raleigh, NC, sons Douglas (Leah) of Rochester and Gregory (Nancy) of Verona, WI, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Millie, his parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and two son-in-laws. The Funeral Service for Art will be held on Monday, August 24, 2020 at 3:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Koglin officiating. Current social-distancing guidelines will be followed. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Rochester. Military honors will be provided by the Rochester American Legion Post 92. Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church of Rochester. Macken Funeral Home |

Mildred was born April 25, 1931, to Carl and Laura (Mundt) Schroeder in Steele County. She graduated from Stewartville High School in 1949. She married Arthur Brandt in 1953 and spent the next 2 years in Norfolk, VA. They returned to Rochester where the raised their five children. Millie enjoyed baking, quilting, gardening and camping. She traveled extensively with her husband after his retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Millie was both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and was a charter member at Christ Lutheran Church in Rochester . She is currently a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother. The funeral for Mildred Violet Brandt will be 11:00 a.m. Friday September 4, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Adam Koglin officiating. Visitation will be Thursday September 3, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour before the service at church on Friday. Macken Funeral Home |
