Edna A. Grunklee of Blooming Prairie died Wednesday afternoon, May 21, at Blooming Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie. She was 102.

Edna Hargefeld was born Feb. 18, 1901, in Havanna Township, daughter of Albert and Anna (Kruckeberg) Hargefeld. She attended the parochial school at St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Claremont.

On Oct. 16, 1924, she married Ernest Grunklee at St. John's. The couple lived and farmed in Steele County for 39 years until Mr. Grunklee's death on April 6, 1963. Mrs. Grunklee remained on the farm until 1970 when the smaller house on the farm was moved into Blooming Prairie.

She did volunteer work at Prairie Manor Nursing Home and helped with bingo for 15 years, until her 90th birthday.

Mrs. Grunklee enjoyed living in town, meeting new friends, having coffee parties, spending time outdoors, taking care of her garden and flowers, crocheting and making quilts. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She stayed in her home until 1997 when she moved to Westside Board and Care in Owatonna. She became a resident of Prairie Manor Nursing Home in 2000.

Edna Grunklee is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Coughlin of Blooming Prairie, Viola Matson of Albert Lea; a son, Merlen (and MaryAnn) Grunklee of Claremont; two sisters, Ann Schmidt of Pine Island and Myrtle Borning of Marshall; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, and a grandson.

The funeral will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Havanna Township, rural Claremont. The Rev. Giles Zimmer will officiate.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p. m. today at Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and an hour before the service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery. The family prefers memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Claremont.
