Rock-n-Roll DJ and Newscaster/News Director MELVIN A. FRITZE, aka: "TONY TREMAYNE" (or TONY "T") on KYA-1260 San Francisco during its salad early Top-40 years, died peacefully on Sept. 21, 2004, with his family at his side in Santa Rosa, CA, at age 81.

He and his wife, Phyllis, had been married for 60 years. Born in Sacramento, CA, on November 23, 1922, Mel moved to the SF Bay Area in 1930 where he began his Radio Career at KROW in Oakland in 1943, worked at KTIM and KSFO, spun Rock-n-Roll records at KYA during the late '50s, then became KYA's (and also KOIT-FM's) Newscaster and later News Director (after Brad Messer left) starting in the early '60s. Mel had a very distinctive CLEAR and DEEP Voice, and was an absolute Professional when out in the Field collecting News in San Francisco. He served as President of AFTRA three times from 1968 to 1970, and was a Member of BROADCAST LEGENDS through 2003. He had retired from KYA back in 1988, and moved to his favorite place in the "VALLEY OF THE MOON". Mel (Tony T) can still be heard on KYA Radio recordings kept at www.ReelRadio.com, and was truly a Hard Act to Follow.

At Phyllis' request, no formal services will be held. She had said on her last days, "No crying, let's go out laughing". Her family and friends will miss her terribly, but know that she is now in a better place.
