A lifelong resident of Oxnard, he was born January 21, 1927 to Adolph and Clara Schroeder. He graduated from Oxnard Union High School in 1944. On February 6, 1949, Charles married his high school sweetheart, Elfrieda, a union which lasted for sixty years. A Building Contractor by trade, Charles worked for his father's company until 1964 when he took over the business establishing The Schroeder Company. Over the next forty years, he was responsible for building and renovating many churches, businesses and homes in western Ventura County. He actively participated in community affairs, serving on several advisory boards for the city of Oxnard. Charles' faith in the Lord was the foundation of his life. As an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxnard, he held many offices and positions as well as overseeing the construction of the original sanctuary and fellowship hall at the church's present location. In his last years, he was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Camarillo. Charles is survived by his wife of sixty years, Elfrieda, daughter Linda and husband Bill Young of Newbury Park, son Ronald and wife Dorothea Schroeder of Oxnard, daughter Karen Schroeder of Lakewood, two grandchildren, Michael Young and Kimberli Chiles, and two great-grandsons Andrew and Joshua Young. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother G. Frederick Schroeder, and grandson Kristopher Young. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Conejo Mountain Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Chapel of the Hills, Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, CA 93012. A memorial service and celebration of Charles' life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 14, 2009 in the Chapel of the Islands at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Camarillo, CA or to the charity of your choice. |

[9] Elfrieda Mary Ann Schroeder, 88, of Oxnard, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on the evening of October 22, 2015. Frieda, as she was known to most, was born on November 19, 1926 in Anaheim, California. As a small child, she relocated to Oxnard with her mother, and remained there for all but a few years of her life. She attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Oxnard Union High School in 1944. It was in her school years where and when she met her future husband, classmate Charles Schroeder. Elfrieda and Charles married in 1949 and settled into the family home built by Charles, the home where they raised their three children and where she lived until she passed. As a young adult, Frieda worked for a short time at a men's clothing store in Santa Barbara, however her most important job was being a homemaker and raising her children. Elfrieda was a warm, kind, and loving individual whose smile and encouragement will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Over the years, Frieda volunteered many hours to her church activities including singing in the choir, playing handbells, serving in various capacities in the women's league, and making quilts for the homeless and veterans. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, painting ceramic pieces, crocheting, baking Christmas cookies, and reading. Elfrieda is survived by her children: daughter, Linda and husband Bill Young of Newbury Park; son, Ronald and wife Dorothea Schroeder of Oxnard; daughter, Karen Schroeder of Lakewood, CA; two grandchildren, Michael Young and Kimberli Chiles; and three great-grandchildren Andrew, Joshua, and Allison Young. Elfrieda was preceded in death by her mother, Elfrieda Muller; husband, Charles; and grandson, Kristopher Young. A private interment will take place at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Elfrieda will be held on Saturday November 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 71 Loma Dr., Camarillo, CA 93010.
