Raymond Arthur Schroeder, age 83, of rural Janesville, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center in Waterville.

Funeral services were Monday at 11 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. The Rev. Larry Griffin officiated. Interment was in Smiths Mill Cemetery following services. Visitation was Sunday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and continued Monday morning for one hour prior to services at the church.

Casket bearers were Harold Youngerberg, Rueben Youngerberg, Joe Britton, Ralph Berndt, Edwin Ewert and Ralph Buecksler.

Mr. Schroeder, the son of Charles and Anna (Ewert) Schroeder, was born May 1, 1916, in Alton Township, Waseca County. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1934. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Luella Ziemke on April 8, 1942, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Smiths Mill. The Schroeders lived in Alton Township where they operated a dairy farm. In 1984 their son, Dave, returned home to work with his parents. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of rural Janesville; by two sons, Jon Schroeder, of Waseca, and Dave Schroeder, of rural Janesville; by three granddaughters, Amy Schroeder and Sarah Schroeder, both of Waseca, and Julie Schroeder, of Mankato.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by one son Gary, who died in infancy; and by one daughter-in-law, Shirley, who died in 1991.
