He passed away on June 3, 2007 in a hospital room in Columbus, Mississippi from injuries suffered in an automotive accident as he and his wife, Helen, traveled through the area. Helen also was injured in the accident, but is recovering well. Harry graduated from Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville in 1948 and immediately joined the Army, where he served honorably. Upon his discharge, Harry enrolled in the University of Mississippi and completed undergraduate and law school in 5.5 years. Harry's career was an executive one, beginning with Price-Waterhouse, the oil-and-gas business, and finally ending up in Indianapolis in 1969, where he worked for Stokley-Van Camp, Curtis Publishing and then a variety of successful independent businesses, including a small accountancy practice, and general counsel work. Harry was active in the community and at Second Presbyterian Church. He served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church and led Sunday school for many years, as well as with helping others seek employment. Harry and Helen actively supported Young Life in Indianapolis for many years. Although a loyal and active Ole Miss alum, Harry loved to follow Butler University basketball. He greatly enjoyed activities with his grandchildren. Harry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen; his son, John, and John's wife, Virginia; his daughter, Kathryn Clark, and Kathryn's husband, Randy Clark; and his grandchildren, Sarah and Drew Clark. There is also much beloved extended family in Minnesota and Mississippi. Harry would appreciate special mention of his nephew Steve Schroeder of Janesville, Minnesota, currently struggling with cancer. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center Carmel. The family requests those of you wishing to visit with Mrs. Schroeder, do so between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 8 at Second Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, Harry's family would appreciate donations to Trinity Lutheran Church, 418 N. Main Street, Janesville, MN 56048. Please designate the gifts for the school. |
