Edwin Jacob Fritze, a former Lutheran pastor and administrator, died Monday (Feb. 10, 1992) at Deaconess Hospital-West in Des Peres. He was 77 and suffered from emphysema. The Rev. Mr. Fritze, of Des Peres, was paster of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Louis from 1948 to 1960. He served for 10 years as project director of marriage, education and counseling seminars for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He retired in 1980. He was born in Topeka, Kan. He graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1939 and got a master's degree from Indiana University. He was ordained in 1942. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road, Des Peres. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Bopp Chapel. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Among the survivors are his wife, Joyce L Fritze of Des Peres; three daughters, Katherine Ware of Scottsdale, Ariz., Carol Oberaitis of Lake Sherwood, Mo. and Marilyn Vogel of Loveland, Colo.; a bother, Julius Fritze of Dallas; and 10 grandchildren. |

He graduated from St. Paul's College, Concordia, Mo., and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo. He received a master's degree in education from Indiana University, Bloominton. He also did graduate work at Washington University, St. Louis. He was ordained in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, in Merced, Calif., in 1942. He served in parishes in David City, Neb., Bakersfield and Taft, Calif., under the Missouri Synod Mission Board. He taught at Concordia College High School Department in Fort Wayne, Ind., then at Zion Lutheran School in Akron, Ohio. He helped start Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran High School. He pastored St. Matthew Lutheran Church in north St. Louis from 1948 to 1970 and then worked for the Missouri Synod as seminar counselor for Pastor's Marriage Counseling. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Radcliffe Fritze, St. Louis; daughters, Marilyn Vogel and husband James, Loveland, Carol Kettner Oberaitis and husband Michael, Lake Sherwood, Mo., and Kathryn Hinz Ware, Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother, Julius and wife Carol, Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren; former wife, Loretta Fritze, Loveland; sisters-in-law, step-children, nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Bopp Funeral Home in St. Louis. The Rev Edward Arle officiated. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery. |

Fritze, 90, of Loveland, CO, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 17, 2006. Loretta was born on April 19, 1916 in Albuquerque, NM to Edward H.F. and Emma Elizabeth (Krueger) Hackman. Loretta was baptized, confirmed and Married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albuquerque. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and was graduated from Albuquerque High School. Following one year at the University of New Mexico, Loretta worked at Hoch's 48th Star Mill as a bookkeeper to help with the family needs. Loretta married Rev. Edwin Fritze in Albuquerque, NM on August 28, 1940. Serving in the Lutheran ministry, they lived in David City, NE, Bakersfield and Merced, CA, Fort Wayne, IN and St. Louis, MO. Loretta moved to Loveland in 1975. Since a serious stroke in August, 2004, she has made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Vogel. Loretta was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loveland. She loved her Lord Jesus, studying His Word, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sewing, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. She had the gift of helping and was generous to all, a true friend to the friendless. Loretta is survivedby three daughters:Kathryn Ware of Albuquerque, NM, Carol Oberaitis and husband, Michael, Lake Sherwood, MO, and Marilyn Vogel and husband Jim of Loveland, CO; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers: E. Edward Hackmann and wife, Pauline of Rio Rancho, NM, and Paul Hackmann and wife, Jean of Orange, CA. Her parents, husband Rev. Edwin Fritze, and sisters, Gertrude Hackmann, Lillian Hackmann and Lois Lutkehus have preceded her to their heavenly home. Visitation will be at Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home on Wednesday, 7 - 8 p.m. with Services on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. will also be at Kibbey Fisburn Funeral Home. Rev. Al Schroeder of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Rev. James Murphy of Faith Evangelical Church will officiate. Loretta's body will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
