Services Held for Richard Decker, 83, on Monday Morning

Richard Decker, age 83 years, a resident of Hayward for the past 27 years passed away at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning, June 25.

He was born in Saxony, Germany, on Nov 9, 1876, the son of Karl and Wilhelmina Decker. At the age of four years he came with his parents to the country and settled at Thief River Falls, MN.

He was united in marriage to Estella Fritse on Nov. 9, 1904, at Lakeland, MN. Later they moved to Red Wing, MN, where he was in the greenhouse business for 12 years.

His wife and two sons preceded him in death.

In 1933 Mr. Decker moved to make his home. He was married to Theresa Stelling. She preceded him in death in 1949.

Survivors are his two daughters, Mrs. George Creaser, Menomonie, WI and Mrs. Carl Brostrom of Wheeler, WI; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Johnson of Red Wing, MN., Mrs. Luman O'Conner of Baldenville, WI., oand Mrs. William Stars of Blooming Prairie, MN, and Mrs. Clifford Shell of Wenatchie, WA; five brothers, Max of Minneapolis, Emil and William of Goodhue, MN, Ben of Red Wing, and Albert of Zumbrota, MN; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday morning at 11 a.m. from the Anderson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Richard Dahlin officiating. Interment took place in the family lot at Oakwood Cemetery at Red Wing, MN.

Theresa Matilda Stelling was born in Marne Ditmarschen, Schlewig-Holstein, Germany on Nov 13, 1877 to Christopher "Christof" Stelling and Margretha Catherine (Vohs) Stelling. Her siblings were: Karl, Emma, Henry, Sophia, Alvina and John Stelling. John and Alvina Stelling was born in Nebraska after coming to America. Theresa did not marry until after the death of her father. Her mother died in 1919 and Theresa lived and took care of her father until his death. Theresa then married Richard H. Decker in 1939.

Phipps News items
Richard Decker and Miss Theresa Stelling were united in marriage at Cable. The ceremony was read by Rev. Hugo List. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Vortanz. A wedding dinner was served after the ceremony to relatives of the bride and groom. [note: Richard and Theresa married Mar 26, 1939].

Well Known Town of Lenroot Woman Dies
Mrs. Theresa Decker, age 71 years, passed away at her home in the town of Lenroot on August 12, following a long illness. She was born in Marne Ditmarschen, Schlewsig-Holstein, Germany on November 13, 1877.

She came with her parents in 1884 to the United States and located at Grand Island, Neb. In 1886, they homesteaded in Bassett, Neb. And in 1903 she came to Hayward. On March 26, 1939, she was untied in marriage to Richard Decker in Cable, WI, at the Lutheran Church, with Rev. Hugo List performing the ceremony. For the past ten years she had made her home in the town of Lenroot.

Mrs. Decker is survived by her husband; two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Rang of Hayward, Mrs. Emma Carlson of California and one brother, John Stelling of Orchard, Nebraska, who arrived here to attend the funeral.

The Body lay in state at the Lester Anderson Funeral Home from Saturday noon until Monday, when it was removed to the Lutheran Church in Phipps, where funeral services were held at 2:00 PM. The Rev. W. G. Brockup, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was in the Phipps Lutheran Cemetery.
