Marquardt Dies After Accident His Death Followed Shortly After Auto Crash When Heart Attack Caused His Demise. Carl Robert Marquardt, long a resident of Freedom Township, died May 2, at Memorial Hospital in Waseca. Death was due to a heart attack, following an auto accident. He was born in the Province of Posen, Felene, Germany on September 23, 1881, and came to America at the age of six-months. He was engaged in farming and for several years performed the duties of assessor and treasurer of School Dist. No. 81 of Freedom Township. His marriage to Miss Clara Buecksler took place June 26, 1906 in St. Clair. His wife preceded him in death on March 2, 1913. One son, Walter, was born to this union. On January 20, 1916, he was united in marriage to Anna Stavenau of Rapidan. The deceased is survived by his wife, one daughter, Doris; two sons, Walter and Erwin; one grandchild, and one brother, Gustav. 5. | Her obituary was published on her Find-A-Grave Memorial on 06/19/2011. Anna Marquardt Funeral services for Anna B. Marquardt, 98, formerly of rural Waldorf, who died Thursday at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato, were held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22 at Freedom Lutheran Church, rural Waseca County, the Rev. Lyle Rusert of the First Lutheran Church, Waldorf, officiating. Burial was in the Freedom Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday evening at Arnoldt's Funeral Home, Janesville, and one hour before services at the church. Mrs. Marquardt was born Nov. 25, 1894 in LeSueur County to John L. and Amelia (Sasse) Stavenau. She moved with her parents to rural Good Thunder at the age of 5, and attended St. John's Lutheran Parochial School in Good Thunder. In the early 1900s she was employed for two years by a laundry in Sioux Falls, S.D., and was then similarly employed in Mankato and New Ulm. She married Carl R. Marquardt of Freedom Township in January of 1916, in Rapidan. They farmed in Freedom Township until Mr. Marquardt died in 1944. She lived in rural Waldorf until May of 1979, when she moved to the Oaklawn Health Care Center. Mrs. Marquardt is survived by a son, Erwin of Mankato; a step-son, Walter of Garrison; a daughter, Doris Light of La Mesa, Calif.; a sister, Thelma Possin of Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home, Waseca; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild, In addition to her husband, Mrs. Marquardt was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
