Her obituary was published on her Find-A-Grave Memorial in Waverly, Bremer, Iowa. [17]
Mrs. Elise Fritz-Schroeder was born on April 12, 1829, in Wahlstorff, Schwerin, Germany. Her father died when the child was but three years of age. Her pious mother gave her a there, Christian education and the girl was confirmed at the age of 14 years. In 1853 she came to America with her mother, and for a short time the two lived in Chicago, where the deceased was married to John Fritz. Soon after that the young couple purchased a farm in Illinois which they operated successfully for ten years.
When the people of that part of the country heard about the wonderful fertility of Iowa soil, the family in company with others came to Bremer county in 1864, where they again settled down on a farm. During the first years of her stay in Bremer Bremer county the deceased was obliged to share many of the privations of the eary settlers. She was one of the organizers of the Lutheran congregation at Crane Creek. In 1885 the family moved into the city of Waverly, and here her husband passed away six years later. For over 27 years she lived in our midst as a widow, and during her entire stay un Waverly she was a loyal member of the local St. Paul's Lutheran church.
During the last years of her life Mrs. Fritz was afflicted with almost total blindness, and during those trying years her Christian bringing up and the many Bible verses and sacred songs which she had learned in her childhood proved to be a great blessing fir her, because they helped to lighten the cross that had been given her to carry. During the past 15 years the deceased lived with her daughter, Mrs. R. R. E. Brandenburg, who left nothing undone for the comfort of her mother, who of late was practically helpless.
On the 15th of May at 5 o'clock p.m. Mrs. Fritz passed peacefully away, and she was thus relieved from all the suffering. Her age was 89 years, 1 month and 3 days. She was the mother of nine children, and is survived by two sons, three daughters, 23 grand-children and 20 great grand-children.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the home of R. R. E. Brandenburg. Services were conducted un St. Paul's Lutheran church and interment took place in Harlington cemetery. Rev. Emil H. Rausch officiated.
