He came to the United States with his parents when he was five and they settled first in Wisconsin. Elizabeth Township had been his home since 1880. He was married to Bertha Johnson in Fergus Falls March 25, 1897. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last March. August was a devout member of the Hedemarken Lutheran Church. A kind and patient man, he was always devoted to his home & family. August & Bertha were the parents of Anne (Wm) Kort, Ernest, John, Fred, Oscar, Delilah (Floyd) Cox, Harry, Roy, Edward, Elda (Roy) Grice, Fern Karlsbraten, William & Lyle. August's siblings include Fred, Amelia, Charlie, Minnie, Bertha, Annie, William & Mathilda. Funeral services were held from Hedemarken Church. |

She came to the Carlisle-Elizabeth area when a girl of ten years of age. Bertha & August Marquardt were married on March 25, 1897. Bertha was a member of the Hedemarken Lutheran Church and was a woman of kindly, thoughtful disposition. At the time of Bertha's passing, she had 95 direct descendants: 13 children 26 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren & 6 great-great grandchildren. August & Bertha were the parents of Anne (Nannie), Ernest, John, Fred, Oscar, Delilah (Lila), Harry, Roy, Edward, Elda, Fern, William & Lyle. Bertha's siblings include Julia Gerhardson, Ida Burau, Nellie Christianson, Elmer Johnson, Teman Johnson, & 4 brothers whom preceded her in death. Funeral services were held from the Hedemarken Lutheran Church, Rothsay, Rev. Maynard Stokka officiating. |
