[10] OBITUARY - Jacob Schroeder Departs This Life Resident of this County for Many Years Died in St. Mary Last Thursday. The death of Jacob Schroeder, a resident of St. Mary for many years, and well known in this county, occurred at his home in that township last Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The deceased was about 81 years old, and up to his final illness had good health during his entire life. Death was caused by cancer of the liver and dropsy. The deceased was born in Schlesweig-Holstein, Germany, April 23, 1835. He was married in that country to Miss Margdeline Schinkel in 1858. His wife and three children died in that country. He came to this country in 1869, coming direct to Davenport, Iowa, where he was in the butchering business for a time. Later he came in this county. He was married in St. Mary to Mrs. Pauline Lueck of that township, and they made their home on the latter's old home farm in that place, ever since. Mr. Schroeder is survived by his wife, a daughter by his first marriage, Mrs. Louis Nickow of St. Paul, five children by his second marriage, Jacob of Vesta, William of Seaforth, Edward of New Richland township, Gustaf at home, and Adolp of New Richland, and by the following step-children: August Lueck of Broken Bow, Neb., Herman Lueck of Woodville, Dan Lueck of St. Mary, Charles Lueck of Seaforth, and Mrs. William Mittelstadt of this city and Mrs. Fred Monthey of Freedom. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, at 1 o'clock from the house, and later from the German Lutheran church of Iosco, Rev. Edward Schultz, officiating. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. The deceased was an industrious citizen and leaves many friends to mourn his death. |

[10] OBITUARY - Old Settler Called Home - Jacob Schroeder of St. Mary Died Tuesday After Short Illness Jacob Schroeder, a resident of Waseca county for nearly fifty years, died last Thursday at his home in St. Mary township. His death was due to complications resulting from advanced age and his last illness had been comparatively short. The funeral was held from the house at one o'clock Sunday afternoon and later at the German Lutheran church of Iosco. Rev. Edward Schultz, who officiated, paid a high tribute to the pious manner in which deceased closed his life. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near the church. Jacob Schroeder was born in Barmstadt, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, where he grew to manhood. He was married there to Magdalene Schenkel in 1858. Four children were born to them, only one of whom, Mrs. Louis Nickew of St. Paul, now survives. After the death of his wife Mr. Schroeder came to America in 1869 and to this county a year later. In 1872 he married Mrs. Pauline Lueck, who now survives him, together with the following children: Jacob Schroeder of Vesta; William of Seaforth; Edward of New Richland; Gustav of St. Mary; and Adolph of New Richland. He also leaves the following stepchildren: Herman and Dan Lueck and Mrs. William Mittelstaedt of Waseca; Mrs. Fred. Monthey of Freeborn and Aug. Lueck who resides in Nebraska. The passing of this worthy pioneer has brought sorrow to many friends who tender their sympathy to the widow and children. |
