Thomas J Hughes

Thomas J. Hughes of No. 39 Seyma street died at St. Francis's Hospital yesterday morning after a short illness. He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Patrick and Ann (Tierney) Hughes. He was employed by the United States Envelope Works for more than thrity years. For the past few years he had been employed by Aetna Insurance Co. Mr. Hughes was a member of Court Alfred E. Burr, F. of A., and Nathan Hale Lodge of United Workmen. He leaves his wife, Mary J. (Hackett) Hughes; a son, Raymond Hughes of this city; two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Fritzie of Springfield and Mrs. William Southerland of Philadelphia; a brother, Joseph C. Hughes, a sister, Mrs. Catherine C. Ostren of this city, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held Saturday at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will be in My. St. Benedict Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary H. Hughes

Mrs. Mary Hackett Hughes, widow of Thomas J. Hughes, formerly of Hartford, died Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Irene Fritze of 297 Chapin Terr., Springfield, Mass. She was born in Hartford and lived here until moving to Springfield 26 years ago. She was an honor member of the American Legion and a Gold Star Mother. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Irene Fritze of Springfield, Mass., and Mrs. Stanley Sutherland of Stamford; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the Ahern Funeral Home, 180 Farmington Ave., at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery. A military ritual will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home by the Lt. C. C. Robinson Post, VFW. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 10 and Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.
