Humphrey Baily, son of Joel J. Baily & Ann Humphrey, was born at New Garden in Chester county, Pennsylvania on June 8th, 1822.

On November 27th, 1844, Humphrey was united in marriage with Philena Davis. This wedding likely took place in Pennsylvania as their first three children, Jason Davis, Joel J., and Eugene A. were all born in the Chester county and Philadelphia area. The next three children, Joshua Gilpin, Charles M., and Susan L. were all born in Linn and Jones counties, Iowa. His wife, Philena, passed away on September 21st, 1866 and is buried at Cass Center Cemetery, north of Anamosa, in Jones county, Iowa.

Humphrey again married on February 22th, 1867 to Delilah Merritt. Two children, Louisa May and Nellie were born to his second marriage. Delilah passed away in September of 1875 and is also buried at Cass Center cemetery.

Humphrey Baily passed away at Lima, in Beaverhead county, Montana while visiting, or living with, two of his children who had settled in the area. His death occurred on July 18th, 1889. He was buried between his two wives, Philena and Delilah at Cass Center cemetery.
